Half Hearted Halloween

Siiiigh.

Again I fell victim to my naive-ness and believed that every other country over commercializes their holidays as much as we do in America, and alas, they do not.

Halloween. A holiday that brings about wonderful things like ABC Family's 13 nights of Halloween, reruns of Poltergeist and Hocus Pocus, and nasty candy corn, is not so prominent here in South Africa. Children don't dress up for school or run around the neighborhoods at night begging for candy then sit engorging themselves on Halloween nom nom until Christmas. My wonderful friend was able to find the ONE orange pumpkin in basically all of South Africa ( thank you Amy xx ). Granted, Halloween at home was covered in about 2 feet of snow, but STILL it was Halloween nonetheless.

But fear not my American amigos! I was able to dress up once for our beloved holiday (as Barbie woop woop!!). My South African friends threw a Halloween party that would make any American proud, complete with spider webs and alcoholic witch's brew.

Barbie & a super hot Nerd hahaha
Ms. Skelator and Frankie

One thing I found surprising about attending a Halloween party is that when invited to a "Halloween Party" in South Africa they don't automatically read that as "Dress Up Wearing As Little Clothes As Possible When Looking Like Some Sort Of Character" (examples: Sexy Kitten, Sexy Policewoman, Sexy Helen Keller, etc. etc.) Even more surprising...!!! There was no Halloween Walk of Shame to look forward to in the morning! Bummer dude! At the end of the day, I got to dress up like Barbie, and that made it an absolutely perfect Halloween. :)
